Food only a phone call away

Eleanor Williams, a University junior, picks up the phone, orders
a pizza, curly fries and two subs to be delivered to her room in the
Towers. Twenty minutes later, the food arrives, is delivered, and no
cash changes hands. Except for the $1 tip, of course.
As the night goes on, 50 more north campus residents call the
same number to have food delivered "for free."
None of these students has any super-saver coupons or discount
gift certificates. What they do have is the Upper Deck Delivery
Service, offered through Dining Services, which will bring residents
of Ray Street, Pencader or the Towers residence halls any items on the
menu and allow the students to pay with points.
These residents simply call 5-2546 to place an order, manager
Doug Quattrini said. The name and identification number of the student
is taken, and a University photo I.D. must be shown for verification
upon delivery.
Available Sundays through Thursdays, from 4:30-11:30 p.m., the
service employs four delivery people each night who usually get the
food to the residences in about 20 minutes. "If there is an unexpected
wait, we call the students to let them know," Quattrini said.
Sophomore Paul Francisco delivers for the Upper Deck. "The tips
are usually pretty cool, and generally we receive few complaints," he
said.
Jeff Marcon, a sophomore who lives in the Towers, orders from the
Upper Deck several times a week. "It is a really great service. It
doesn't seem like I really have to spend money," Marcon said.
