New chair named in family studies                      
                                                       
     John C. Cavanaugh has been appointed chairperson and professor of
the Department of Individual and Family Studies.  He assumed this 
position  Sept. 1.                                           
     Cavanaugh received his bachelor's degree from the University of
Delaware in psychology with high honors, and his master's and doctoral
degrees in developmental psychology from the University of Notre
Dame.                                                        
     Before joining the Delaware faculty, he was professor of
psychology at Bowling Green State University and adjunct professor of
psychology at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo.  At Bowling
Green, he also directed the Institute for Psychological Research and
Application, and served as director for behavioral research of the
Northwest Ohio Dementia and Memory Center at the Medical College of
Ohio.                                                        
     Cavanaugh has published three books and has more than 40
professional publications in his field of study.
