Deadline Friday for campus weight management course
Stop sipping your Slim-Fast and warming up your Nutri-System
lasagna, folks. The Weight Management Program, a course taught by
registered dietician Marianne Carter, begins Monday, Oct. 12, in 238
Alison Hall, and offers a healthy alternative to fad diets.
The 10-week course, scheduled Mondays from 12:10-12:50 p.m., is
designed to modify a person's eating habits through a variety of ways.
The topics for the course include basic nutrition, fat and
cholesterol, shopping for food, exercise and recipe modification.
Anyone who loses 10 pounds by the end of the program will receive a
$20 rebate on the $105 course fee.
According to Carter, "Fad diets and gimmicks don't work. You can
lose weight while you're in them, but individuals frequently regain
the lost weight when they resume their previous eating habits."
Jack Smith, chairperson of the Department of Nutrition and
Dietetics, added, "The University weight management program is a
sensible approach for those interested in controlling their weight for
the long-term. Sound, accurate nutrition information is provided by a
qualified practitioner."
The program is co-sponsored by the Nutrition Clinic, Department
of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Employee Assistance and Wellness
Program and the Office of Employee Relations.
Checks for registration should be made out to the University of
Delaware and sent to the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics in
Alison Hall. Enrollment is limited and the deadline is Oct. 9.
For more information, call Carter at 831-1109.
