Research office restructured
Research administration has been restructured under the Office of
the Vice Provost for Research, combining the former Office of Research
and Patents and the pre-award section of the Office of Sponsored
Programs Administration.
Costel D. Denson serves as interim vice provost for research.
Under the reorganization, all preparatory and administrative
activities leading to a grant proposal to an outside organization are
under the office of the vice provost.
Monitoring and accounting functions of contract and grant
management remain in the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration,
under the Office of the Treasurer.
"One of the goals of the reorganization is to foster a research
environment by streamlining services to facilitate the grant and
funding process from public and private sources. Another goal is to
highlight research at the University on a national and international
level.
"We also will focus on intellectual properties management in such
areas as patents, joint ventures, secrecy agreements and licensing,"
Denson said
Under the new organization, Sandra Staples is serving as director
of pre-award administration in charge of proposals for government
funding; Deanna Benson is serving as administrator of research
services, with responsibilities related to proposals for grants from
the private sector; and Michele Campbell is administrator of
intellectual properties, including patents, agreements and licensing.
A workshop about the services of the research office is scheduled for
Nov. 18. Details will be announced later.
The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is located in the
office suite of 210 Hullihen Hall, with Denson's office in 209
Hullihen. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
