Tubby Raymond in 'Sports Illustrated'
Delaware head football coach Harold "Tubby" Raymond will be
featured in the Oct. 5 issue of Sports Illustrated in an article
written by Steve Hymon. The piece is an advanced text article, meaning
it will not appear in all issues of the magazine but will be mailed to
certain zip codes. While the article will be included in the news
stand issues, some Delaware-area subscribers will learn more about the
Blue Hen coach.
Hymon spent an entire day with Raymond Aug. 20, interviewing him
along with assistant coaches and players. The writer was particularly
interested in Raymond's practice of painting a portrait of a senior
player each week to hang in the locker room during the football
season. Raymond usually does the painting during the week and puts the
portrait in the team locker room on Thursday.
The players are allowed to keep their portraits, which include a
motivational comment about beating that particular week's opponent.
Raymond is one of the most successful coaches in college history.
This year is his 27th season at Delaware.
