Loud & clear-Antenna improves signal

     Now hear WVUD-loud and clear!
What started out as a calamity turned out to be a blessing in
disguise, according to Chuck Tarver, manager of the University's FM radio
station, WVUD.
The saga started in May, when Christiana East was flooded as workers
installing cable inadvertently set off the building's sprinkler system. One
of the pieces of equipment irrevocably damaged by the flood was WVUD's
transmitter, housed on the top floor.
"WVUD was totally shut down, and later we operated under reduced
power," Tarver recalled.
While chief station engineer Rich McGuire was examining the damage, it
was discovered that the station's antenna, situated atop the building, was
not attuned to its operating frequency 93.1 FM.
The decision was made to replace the old antenna with a new one to
improve reception for listeners in the area covered by WVUD, and the
installation was completed in late July.
With an upgrade in equipment, WVUD is in a much better position to
serve listeners with clearer reception over a larger area, Tarver said.
