University relations director named to head alumni office

Robert R. Davis, director of University relations since 1984, has been
promoted to director of alumni and University relations, effective
immediately, Charles M. Forbes, vice president for development and alumni
relations, announced today.
"I am very pleased that Bob Davis has accepted this additional
assignment," Forbes said. "He brings with him a wonderful blend of
experience, creativity and initiative. Bob holds two degrees from Delaware,
is a longtime employee and has managed state-wide programs and events that
involve thousands of alumni, friends, students, employees and their
families with the University of Delaware.
"I believe he will accomplish many fine things for the University's
alumni, who now number more than 74,000," Forbes said.
Davis holds bachelor's degrees in political science and art history
from the University of Delaware and a master's degree in educational
administration from Bowling Green University. He first joined the
University staff in 1977 as associate director of alumni relations. In
1979, during preparation for the University's 150th anniversary capital
campaign, he joined the Development Office staff to head the research
unit-a position he held until becoming director of University relations.
On the campus, Davis is a member of the University Awards Committee,
the Employee Relations Advisory Committee and the Student Appellate Court,
and he has served on the Professional Advisory Council.
Active in community and civic affairs, he is a member of numerous
professional, historical and preservation societies in Delaware, including
current service on the boards of directors of the New Castle Historical
Society and the Centreville School and previously on the boards of the New
Castle County Chamber of Commerce and the Brandywine chapter of the
National Society of Fundraising Executives.
Before joining the University staff, Davis was director of public
information, dean of students and director of placement at Wilmington
College and served as assistant headmaster at the New Castle Day School.
He and his wife, Mary, and their two sons live in New Castle.
