Class of 1993
The University of Delaware will hold its 144th Commencement exercises
at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 29, in Delaware Stadium.
The ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will be held rain
or shine.
Persons planning to attend the ceremony are advised to arrive early,
since traffic is always congested with a ceremony of this size and because
of construction work on Route 896. Alternate routes to Delaware Stadium are
encouraged for the ceremony: From the north on I-95, take Exit 3B (Route
273) to Route 4 West; and from the south, take Exit 109B in Maryland (Route
279/Elkton Road) to Route 4 East. Delaware Stadium is near the corner of
Routes 4 and 896.
Arrangements have been made for those arriving early to purchase
breakfast at Delaware Stadium.
At the ceremony, filmmaker Ken Burns, creator of the award-winning
documentary "The Civil War," will address the graduates and their families
and friends. His topic is "Kinship of the Soul." He also will receive an
honorary doctor of humane letters degree from the University. Burns spent
several years in Newark as a child, when his father taught in the
University's anthropology department.
After the Commencement exercises, each of the University's 10 colleges
will hold Convocation ceremonies at locations around the campus.
College Convocation times and locations are
* College of Agricultural Sciences, 2 p.m., Mitchell Hall
auditorium;
* College of Arts and Science, 11 a.m., Delaware Stadium (in the
event of rain, this convocation will be held in the Bob Carpenter
Center at 1:30 p.m.);

* College of Education, noon, Room 101 of Clayton Hall;

and, if it rains, for the College of Arts and Science Convocation. Ticket
