User Services sets UNIX classes

     CNS User Services will offer the first in a series of classes for
faculty, graduate students and staff migrating from the IBM 3090 to UNIX
systems. Initially, classes will be directed to statistical computing
users; however, extensive assistance will be offered eventually to all
computer users involved in the migration.

   * Introduction to UNIX: Pine mail, Pico editor and managing files.
     This class will be offered in two different formats.
       - Instructor-led format, with step-by-step, hands-on exercises:
            9 a.m.-noon, Monday, June 7;
            1:30-4:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 8;
            9 a.m.-noon, Friday, June 11
       - Self-paced format, working through printed tutorials with staff
          assistants present: 9 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, June 9; 1:30-4:30
          p.m., Thursday, June 10
   * Migration of SPSS files. Classes to help move and use existing
     SPSS programs and files: 2-4 p.m., Monday, June 14; 10 a.m.-noon,
     Wednesday, June 16
   * Migration of SAS files. Classes to help move and use existing SAS
     programs and files: 10 a.m.-noon, Monday, June 14; 2-4 p.m.,
     Wednesday, June 16
   * Introduction to SAS for Statistical Computing. This two-part class
     is geared to the new or novice user who would like to start using
     SAS on the UNIX system.
       - Part 1: 1:30-4:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 15
       - Part 2: 1:30-4:30 p.m., Thursday, June 17

     Prerequisite for all classes is an active account on the central UNIX
system with sufficient disk space allocations.
