Marine studies video provides information on maritime careers
From the fishing villages of Maine to the Port of Los Angeles to the
resorts of Hawaii, millions of Americans earn their living from the sea.
The University has produced a new video, for audiences ranging from junior
high school students to adults, pointing out the variety of marine-oriented
jobs.
The variety of marine-related jobs has greatly expanded in recent
decades, offering more choices than ever to those who hear the call of the
sea.
Entitled "Marine Careers," the video provides an 18-minute
introduction to careers in marine transportation, marine technology,
recreation and tourism, uniformed services, commercial fishing and
aquaculture, enviromental management and marine science. Each segment
highlights the basic skills, training requirements, salary range and career
outlook for that particular field.
Among the career fields explored in the video are

well as careers on the coastal and inland waterways and in ports;
* Technological fields such as naval architecture, marine
engineering, offshore energy development and commercial diving;
* The tourism industry, including seasonal and small businesses,
