ArtSite open house in Recitation Hall
The Department of Art will host an open house of ArtSite, the
Mac-based computer site, Friday, May 21, in 202D and 202E Recitation Hall.
Events for the day include presentations by faculty who have taught at
the site and open access to the site computers, software and peripheral
equipment, including three color printers, video and scanners.
Following is a list of faculty presentations: 1 p.m., Ray Nichols,
visual communications; 2 p.m., John Weiss, photography; 3 p.m., Vera
Kaminski, fibers; and 4 p.m., a demonstration of printing capabilities.
Alumni to sponsor summer, fall trips
An overnight trip to New York City and a six-day tour of the South
will be sponsored by the University of Delaware Alumni Association.
The New York trip July 6-7 features tickets to two Broadway
blockbusters: The Sisters Rosenzweig, a play that has received rave
reviews, starring Jane Alexander, Madeline Kahn and Robert Klein, and The
Good-bye Girl, starring Bernadette Peters and Martin Short, with music by
Marvin Hamlisch and book by Neil Simon.
The cost of $315 per person includes round-trip, motorcoach
transportation, hotel accommodations for one night, admissions to all
sightseeing on the itinerary, one lunch, one dinner and two theatre
tickets.
A $50 per person deposit is required upon registration, with final
payment due by June 1.
"Autumn in Asheville" will be Oct. 7-12. This trip will include an
overnight stay in Winston-Salem, N.C., and a visit to Old Salem, a
restoration of the Moravian town founded in 1766. A visit to Ashville,
N.C., will include a tour of the Biltmore Mansion, the famous home of
George Vanderbilt completed in 1895, and the internationally famous garden
designed by Frederick Law Olmstead,as well as a wine tasting at the
Biltmore Estate Winery. Also included is a scenic drive along the Blue
Ridge Parkway with a stop at Grandfather Mountain, the highest peak in the
Blue Ridge chain, a mile-high swinging bridge and a museum and theatre that
show the natural history and nature of the area. A stop in Charlottesville,
Va., will include a tour of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello.
The tour will conclude with a drive through the scenic countryside of
Virginia and a visit to Frederick, Md., for a one-hour tour by horse-drawn
trolley.
The $659 fee includes round-trip motor coach transportation, meals,
accommodations and tours. A deposit of $100 per person is required upon
registration, with the balance to be paid by Aug. 15.

Carnatic vocal recital May 16 in Bacchus
A vocal recital of Carnatic music will be presented by O. S.
Thiagarajan at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 16, at the Bacchus Theatre of the
Perkins Student Center.
Shri. Thiagarajan will be accompanied by Mysore M. Manjunath on violin
and R. Ramesh on mridangam.
Carnatic music is one of the two major systems of Indian classical
music. Improvisation is blended with organized or pre-set patterns of
articulated music. Vocal music is accompanied by a string instrument and
percussion.
Sponsored by the Indian Students Association at the University and the
Jhankar Music Circle of Delaware, the concert is open to the public.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, and children under 15
are admitted free.
