National recognition

The 1993 Philip E. Frandson Award for literature in the field of
continuing education has been awarded to Richard Fischer, associate provost
for continuing education and assistant professor in the College of
Education, for his book, Students of the Third Age.
The award is presented each year by the National University Continuing
Education Association to the author of the book that enhances the
understanding of theory and/or practice in adult and continuing education.
Students of the Third Age is a comprehensive overview of the learning
needs of older (retired) adults and examines current university and college
models that respond to this need. James K. Broomall, associate director of
continuing education and an assistant professor in the College of
Education, was a contributor to the book.
In addition to receiving the literature award April 18 in Nashville,
Fischer has also received the Walter S. Bittner National Award for
outstanding contributions to the field of continuing education and service
of major significance to the national association.
