James Madison professor to chair accounting department
Kent St. Pierre, professor of accounting at James Madison University,
has been appointed chairperson of the Department of Accounting in the
University of Delaware's College of Business and Economics, Kenneth R.
Biederman, dean of the college, announced.
His appointment, effective July 1, ends a yearlong national search. He
replaces William Markell, who is retiring at the end of this academic year,
after 35 years with the college.
St. Pierre, who received his doctorate in 1981 from Washington
University in St. Louis, has served on the accounting faculty at James
Madison since 1983.
From 1986-91, he directed the School of Accounting there, and he
currently directs the school's master's in accounting program.. Before
joining James Madison, he was assistant professor of accounting at the
University of Rhode Island and an audit senior for Price Waterhouse in St.
Louis.
He earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting and an MBA from
Eastern Illinois University.
Editor of the Journal of Accounting Education, St. Pierre is the
author or co-author of numerous articles in professional journals.
He has served the American Accounting Association in many capacities,
including as national meeting education coordinator, secretary of the
teaching/curricula section and a member of various committees and
subcommittees.
He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants.
