Voice of FIXIT
     Plant Operation's Work Control Center for maintenance problems has
upgraded its phones and added voice mail for the 831-1411 FIXIT line. The
center receives about 300 calls per day, so callers are encouraged to leave
messages via voice mail.

Federal jobs software
     Career Planning and Placement has recently purchased software that
allows individuals to complete the standard federal employment application
(SF-171) on a personal computer.
     The software is easy to use, and directions are provided. Users should
bring a formatted 3-1/2" disk to save information for future updates or
changes.
     The software is available for use from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday -Friday,
(Wednesdays until 7 p.m.) on the IBM PC in the Career Resource Center,
located on the second floor of Raub Hall.

Teachers fest May 20
     The fifth annual "Thank Goodness for Teachers" celebration will be
held from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Thursday, May, 20, in the Carpenter Club at the
Bob Carpenter Center.
     Delaware Rep. Peggy Gordon Bradley, Delaware '76, will deliver a
special tribute to Delaware educators and door prizes will be awarded.
     Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Poetry contest
     The National Library of Poetry will award $12,000 in prizes to over
250 poets in the North American Open Poetry Contest. Any poet, whether
previously published or not, can be a winner.
     To enter, send one original poem on any subject and in any style, by
June 30, to: The National Library of Poetry, 11419 Cronridge Drive, P.O.
Box 704-XN, Owings Mills, MD 21117. The poem should be no more than 20
lines. The poet's name and address should appear on the top of the page.

CTE survey due
     The Center for Teaching Effectiveness has distributed its three-year
evaluation form. Even individuals who have not utilized the center's
resources are asked to complete the survey.
     The results of this survey will be used to make adjustments for
improved services to the campus community. Participants should complete the
evaluation form using a #2 pencil, and return it in a large flat envelope
no later than May 15.

Strawberry carnival
     Girl's Inc. of Delaware will hold its 35th annual Strawberry Carnival
from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, May 8, at the Dennison branch at 1019 Brown
St. in Wilmington.
     Events will include a plant sale, carnival games, a white elephant
sale and food. The highlight is a strawberries and ice cream booth.
     Proceeds from the event will benefit youth programs at the Dennison
facility.

QuickTime seminar
     QuickTime(tm) software, which has been shipped with every Macintosh
computer for over a year, will be the focus of a seminar to be held from 10
a.m.-noon, Friday, May 14, in 011 Smith Hall.
     This seminar is designed to allow a closer look at a piece of software
that has the capability to compress simple, high-quality still images and
work with animations as well.
     This tool, when used in the classroom, can bring a world of motion and
visualization to students.

New cruise deadline
     University staff and friends have booked a cruise aboard the Norwegian
Cruise Line's new ship, M.V. Dreamward, sailing Sept. 25 from New York City
to Bermuda. For the seven-day cruise and bus transportation to and from New
York, the price is $848 per person plus $102 port charge (half the brochure
rate). All cabins are outside and include a sitting area.
