Medalist of distinction
Robert A. Fischer Jr., a member of the University of Delaware Board of
Trustees (left), and President David P. Roselle present University
benefactor Chaplin Tyler with the Medal of Distinction in a ceremony held
recently in Mitchell Hall on the campus.
The highest award presented by the University, the medal is given to
citizens of the state and region who have contributed greatly in the areas
of professional achievement or public service of national or international
significance. Tyler, former U.D. lecturer and DuPont Co. executive, has
made generous contributions to the University of Delaware Library and the
College of Business and Economics. In 1992, he gave the University $2
million for the College of Business and Economics: half for a fund for a
new building and the other half to create an endowment to support faculty
and students, including the Chaplin Tyler Professorship.
The Medal of Distinction was presented April 14 as part of the
college's Student Business Executive Conference. Featured speaker at the
conference was Thomas H. Kean, president of Drew University and former
governor of New Jersey.
