Student ill with bacterial meningitis
Kevin DeLucia, a junior accounting major from Wilmington, has been
hospitalized in the Medical Center of Delaware's Wilmington Hospital with
bacterial meningitis.
The bacteria is contagious for those who have had very close personal
contact with a person with the illness, according to Joseph Siebold,
director of Student Health Services. Any student who has had close contact
with DeLucia should visit his or her personal physician or visit the
Student Health Center in Laurel Hall for preventative antibiotics. Symptoms
of the illness are headache, fever, severe neck- and backaches, with
possible chills and general malaise.
As of 3 p.m., Wednesday, DeLucia was in improved condition.
