I drive delivery trucks for Central Receiving. I started out almost 20
years ago as a driver's helper and was promoted to a driver in 1975.

"My job is to deliver materials to different departments around
campus. I make four runs a day- two in the morning and two in the
afternoon. I'm on a tight schedule, so it's important to be on time. The
traffic on campus doesn't bother me, though. I just take my time.
"There are five of us drivers here. We're all good friends. We all
work together and try to help each other. I'm proud of all of them because
I think they are a great crew to work with.
"The part of my job that I really like is that I get to interact with
so many other University employees. I see people from Grounds, Dining
Services, Maintenance and Plant Operations, to name a few. I've made a lot
of good friends this way.
"The hardest part of my job is that it can be physically demanding,
especially when you have a heavy load of furniture and the elevator is
broken. I have to carry it up the stairs then, and that can be tough. I
have a lot of responsibility in my job. I've got to make sure the right
things arrive at the proper department at the right time. I always try to
do my best."
