Children's computer camps set

Two two-week computer camps for children ages 4 through 7 will be held
on campus this summer.
The camps are designed to provide children with an opportunity to
develop computer skills through developmentally appropriate activities,
work to help children become comfortable with computers in their world and
have them recognize the computer as a useful tool.
Sessions are scheduled from June 21 through July 2 and again from July
5 through 16. Camp is held Monday through Thursday each week.
Children must be at least 4 and under 8 to attend. Children who will
be ages 4 and 5 by June 1 should register for morning sessions, which run
from 9 a.m. to noon. Children who are ages 6 and 7 by June 1 should
register for the afternoon group, which meets from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Tuition is $150 per child, with some scholarship money available.
Apple, Commodore, IBM and Macintosh computers will be available for
the children, as well as an extensive library of open-ended discovery
oriented software.
Younger children will develop beginning keyboard skills, learn to use
various computers, learn to use software designed for early childhood and
develop pre-programming skills.
Older children will approach the computer as a creative tool. Emphasis
will be placed on creative expression using interactive software involving
graphics, animation, music and word processing. Programming with LOGO may
also be available.
A staff of trained teachers and parent volunteers will be on hand to
assist the children as they explore computer technology.
Interested persons should call Nancy Pegan at 831-2969 for an
application. Deadline for both camps is June 11.
The camp is administered by the Computers As Partners Project (CAPP),
sponsored by the Department of Individual and Family Studies in the
University's College of Human Resources.
