Adams burst on the international rock scene in 1983 with the album
Cuts Like a Knife, which sold nearly 2 million copies in the U.S. and
spawned several hit singles, including "Straight from the Heart."
The following year, his album Reckless achieved quintuple platinum
status in America and produced such top singles as "Heaven," "Run to You,"
"Summer of '69" and "It's Only Love," a duet with Tina Turner.
While touring in support of his next album, Into the Fire, Adams
appeared at the 1988 Freedomfest tribute to Nelson Mandela at London's
Wembley Stadium.
His most recent album, Waking Up the Neighbours, was released in 1991,
and it included the romantic hit "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You," which
became the fastest-selling No. 1 pop hit since 1985's "We Are the World."
In addition to his own albums, Adams has lent background vocals and
guitar to studio projects by Charlie Sexton, Joe Cocker, Belinda Carlisle,
Dion and Motley Crue. In July 1990, he participated in Roger Waters'
historic presentation of Pink Floyd's "The Wall." In 1990, Adams was named
best male artist of the '80s by the Canadian Recording Industry
Association.
