Alumni professor nominations due

     An Alumni Distinguished Professorship will be awarded in 1993-94 to
recognize significant contributions to the undergraduate experience through
outstanding teaching and service.
     James R. Soles, professor of political science and international
relations, was named the first Distinguished Alumni Professor last year.
     To qualify, the nominee must have:

       * obtained rank of full professor;
       * demonstrated excellence in teaching;
       * made major innovations in course and curriculum design with
         documented benefits for instructional improvements;
       * demonstrated campus leadership in the promotion of teaching
         excellence;
       * made outstanding contributions to expanding opportunities for
         student research and service that enriches student educational
         achievement; and
       * made national contributions to the promotion of excellence in
         teaching through publications and other professional activity.

     Faculty, deans, chairpersons, alumni and students may nominate
individual faculty for this award.
     Final selection is made by the provost with recommendations from a
committee, to include the vice provost for academic affairs, two named
professors, one dean and the director of the Center for Teaching
Effectiveness and the first Distinguished Alumni Professor.
     The second distinguished professor will be announced in the fall of
1993. Nominations must be sent to the provost's office by May 1.
     Faculty who were nominated last year will again be considered.
