Hide your identity from Caller ID
With the advent of Caller ID and display telephones, Caller ID/Per
Call Blocking is a useful feature accessible to all University telephone
users.
When a call is placed within the Diamond State Telephone calling area
to someone who has Caller ID, the caller's phone number is shown on a
display unit. With some of the new phone systems being installed on campus,
internal numbers will be displayed as well.
To prevent a number from being displayed, these steps must be taken:
* Dial "57," listen for the stutter tone, then dial the phone number.
In some instances a fast busy signal or an announcement stating
that the call cannot be completed will be heard. These are
indications that it is not possible to prevent the display of the
phone number.
* For individuals who answer phones at a main department number,
before transferring calls to a supervisor, chairperson or other
employee who may not want their private number displayed, dial "57,"
listen for the stutter dial tone and then dial the four digit
extension.
* These directions must be followed each time to ensure that the phone
number is not displayed.
