Treat yourself right by eating heart-healthy campus meals

You can treat yourself right this month, National Nutrition Month, by
becoming a more heart-healthy diner.
As part of its ongoing program of providing good nutrition for the
campus population, University Dining Services offers a selection of
heart-healthy menu items at every meal.
According to Randle W. Clay, district manager of University Dining
Services, ARA's national healthy-eating program, called Treat Yourself
Right (TYR), has been successful on the Delaware campus.
With over 350 Treat Yourself Right recipes to choose from, Dining
Services offers at least one health-oriented entree every lunch and dinner
in the dining halls and at other food operations across campus, such as the
Scrounge and Center Court.
All TYR foods are good tasting, Debra Miller-Lewandowski,
administrative dietitian for Dining Services, said.
If the recipe meets the TYR criteria, based on recommendations from
the U.S. dietary guidelines, the U.S. Department of Agriculture food
pyramid and the American Heart Association, but is not appetizing, she
said, the food will not be offered as a TYR option.
The Treat Yourself Right program features a wide variety of offerings.
In addition to entrees. Included are soups, vegetables, desserts and even
salad dressings.
"Because the food is available in so many forms and at so many campus
sites, it is no longer considered 'diet' food. Instead, it has become a
part of healthy, everyday eating," Miller-Lewandowski said.
