From Bulgaria, with appreciation
Twenty-five Bulgarian students, who were among those attending a
seminar in January taught in their country by Delaware faculty member
Michael Pohlen, decided to do something about the class.
They sat down and wrote a letter to President David P. Roselle,
calling the seminar's material "exceptionally useful for us" and "the
teaching (instruction) ... excellent."
The 25, who noted they are "of different ages, types of higher
education and professional interests," said they wanted to express their
"great gratitude for the seminar of Prof. Pohlen," as well as their
"thankfulness to the University of Delaware, its teaching staff, for the
efforts, the devoted time, the resources spent and the noble mission."
The University conducts a cooperative educational and research program
with Bulgaria, involving University faculty from the economics, accounting,
business administration and finance departments in the College of Business
and Economics and the English Language Institute who teach courses to
Bulgarian managers, economists, government officials, faculty, students and
journalists.
The University recently was awarded a second one-year grant, for a
total of $2.61 million, from the U.S. Agency for International Development
(USAID), to support economics education, management and English instruction
in Bulgaria-a country moving to a free market economy
Pohlen is an associate professor of business administration, and his
seminar in Bulgaria was entitled "Total Quality Management."
