CNS User Services printer update: Xerox 4050 to be disconnected
The Xerox 4050 printer, located in 006 Smith Hall and used for
printing from UNIX and UDelVM, will be removed from service Sept. 15.
The printing options for the Xerox 4050 are now available on the HP
LaserJet IIISi printers (known as "SMIPS"). If you have not yet
converted to the new printers, please do so before the deadline.
For regular text file printing on the new HP laser printers in
006 Smith Hall, use the commands and options listed in the charts
below. (Replace fn and ft with your file 's name and file type). On
both systems, the default is to produce duplex output on undrilled
paper.
UNIX Option SMIPS print commands
no options qpr -q smips fn
drilled paper qpr -q smips -f drilled fn
undrilled qpr -q smips fn
landscape enscript -r -p- fn | qpr -q smips
duplex qpr -q smips fn
simplex qpr -q smips -S fn
two up (2up) enscript -2r -p- fn | qpr -q smips

On UDelVM, to change your default printer from x4050 you must
edit your PROFILE EXEC file.
Remove any lines such as:
tag dev printer x4050
spool printer to mdqs
spool printer to rscs
printat x4050
and insert the following line:
printat smips

Waterloo Script to see how to send your files to the SMIPS printers.

Xerox 3700s gone
During the summer, CNS User Services replaced the Xerox 3700
laser printers (located in 006 Smith Hall) with HP LaserJet PostScript
printers ("SMIPS"). Instructions for converting to SMIPS are available
at the Smith I/O counter.
