UD Day at Delaware Park benefits Carpenter Center              
                                                               
     University of Delaware Day at Delaware Park-a festive day of    
racing and fun-will be held on Friday, Sept. 18, with proceeds of the
day benefiting the Bob Carpenter Center. Admission is free.          
     An area of the second-floor clubhouse concourse has been reserved        
for members of the campus community and alumni and friends of the    
University and will be decorated in blue and gold-with balloons and  
banners.                                                             
     For convenience, individuals and groups can make arrangements in
advance to have Dining Services provide food for special gatherings at        
the park, and free shuttle buses will leave the Student Center every 
half hour, beginning at 1:30 p.m.                                    
     A buffet also will be available through Dining Services on the  
concourse, from 4 to 7 p.m., at a cost of $7.50.                     
     Racing experts will be on hand to assist with wagers.

     The day will add to the festivities at the park in connection   
with this year's New Castle County Fair, set for Sept. 17-20 and     
offering rides, games and attractions for the whole family.          
     The University has been given 6,000 discount tickets for the    
fair, which provide a $2 discount to the regular admission of $4.    
Tickets are available for pick up at the main desk of the Student    
Center and from the Office of the Vice President for Government and  
Public Relations at 126 Hullihen Hall, telephone 831-2931.           
     On Thursday, Sept. 17, "News Journal Crossroads Day," the fair  
will open at noon with a children's festival and midway. Several     
performances will be offered by the German National Circus and the   
Backyard Circus.                                                     
     A National Wrestling Federation card offering six matches will  
begin at 8 p.m.                                                      
     The featured attraction will include a title match between the     
Honky Tonk Man and Col. DeBeers.                                     
     "Nick Live" Day is set for Friday, Sept. 18, when the fair,     
children's festival and midway open at 11 a.m. In addition to the    
German National Circus, other acts will include the Sin City Band,   
Backyard Circus, "Nick Live"and Pam Pipe & Puppets. The fair will    
close at 9 p.m.                                                      
     Saturday, Sept. 19, is "Wild and Crazy Kids" Day, which will    
begin at 10 a.m. and end at 9 p.m. A Children's Minstrel Show,       
Wilmington Drama League performance, Fiddlin & Foolin and the "Wild  
and Crazy Kids" will join the two circuses.                          
     New Castle County Handicap Day is the theme on Sunday, Sept. 20,
the final day of the annual event. Gates will open at noon and the   
fair will close at dusk.                                             
     "Wild and Crazy Kids" will make a repeat performance, along with
the two circuses.                                                    
     In addition, Ralph McKinney's Kiddie Disco and the New Castle      
County Handicap will be featured during the day.                     
     There will be special exhibits, rides and games, refreshments and        
special foods throughout the four-day event, sponsored by Delaware   
Park, the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce and County Pride and 
co-sponsored by Allen Insurance Group, the Healy Group Inc, Heritage 
Cablevision and WDEL/WSTW Radio.                                     
     Tickets for Nickelodeon Live and Wild & Crazy Kids at $10 per   
person and tickets for NWF Wrestling at $15 each are on sale at      
Ticketmaster, telephone 984-2000, and will not be sold at the door.  
Individuals with a ticket to one of the three events listed above will        
be admitted free to the fair for that day.
