Nominations due by Oct. 1 for distinguished professorship
President David P. Roselle and Provost R. Byron Pipes have
announced the establishment of a University of Delaware Alumni
Distinguished Professorship.
This named professorship will recognize a faculty member who has
made significant contributions to the education of undergraduate
students through outstanding teaching and service. It is hoped that
additional Alumni Distinguished Professors will be appointed in the
future.
The Alumni Distinguished Professor will have:
* obtained the rank of full professor;
* demonstrated excellence in teaching (possible sources of
evidence include, but are not limited to, receipt of Excellence
in Teaching and Excellence in Advisement awards, teaching
evaluations, peer observations and reports from alumni;
* made outstanding contributions to expanding opportunities for
student research and service that enriches student educational
achievement, including the development of significant mentoring
relationships; and
* made national contributions to the promotion of excellence in
teaching through publications and other professional activity.
Faculty, deans, chairpersons, alumni and students may nominate
individual faculty for this award, which is funded by the University.
Final selection will be by the provost, with recommendations from a
committee to include the vice provost for academic affairs, two
faculty (either named professors or those who have received Excellence
in Teaching or Advisement awards), one dean, and the director of the
Center for Teaching Effectiveness.
Only senior faculty (full professors) are eligible. The first
Alumni Distinguished Professor will be named this fall.
Nominations should be sent to the Provost's Office by Oct. 1.
