Education scholarship
     The College of Education Alumni Association will award two $1,000 and
one $600 tuition scholarships to undergraduates who exhibit exceptional
promise as future educators. These awards will be presented on May 7,
Honors Day.
     For an application, call William B. Keene in the College of Education
at 831-6205. The deadline is Feb. 26.

Awards for seniors
     Nominations for the annual Emalea Pusey Warner and Alexander J. Taylor
Sr. awards to the outstanding senior woman and man are due by March 1. To
be eligible for consideration, nominees must have a cumulative index of 3.0
or better at the end of the first semester of their senior year and must
demonstrate outstanding qualities of leadership, citizenship and character.
     Each award consists of a $500 U.S. Savings Bond, presented on Honors
Day. The recipients will be invited to lead the alumni delegates procession
at the 1993 Commencement.

Resist bias workshop
     The YWCA will sponsor a workshop on "Teaching Children to Resist
Bias," from 9:30-11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship of Newark. Ruth Bean, an early childhood educator,
and Kathie Stamm, youth program director, will lead the free workshop,
directed to parents, teachers and child care staff.

Cardiac walk/jog
     A walk/jog will be held from 8:30-11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 14, at the Bob
Carpenter Center to kick-off the University's Cardiac Rehabilitation
Program. Registration will be held on site. There is no charge for
participation or parking. Beverages and light refreshments will be served,
and there will be random drawing for prizes. For information, call

Ice skating special
     A special holiday public session will be held at the University's Blue
Ice Arena from 8 p.m.-midnight, Saturday, Feb. 13. Admission to the special
Valentine's Day Skate is $3.50 per person. Skate rental is $2.

Notice of auto sale
     Sealed bids are being accepted for two vehicles to be sold by the
U.S.Department of Agriculture Beneficial Insects Laboratory. Bids are due
by 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, at 501 South Chapel St. The first vehicle
is a full-size, 1984 Chevrolet van with 57,048 miles. The second is a 1981
Plymouth Reliant K car station wagon with 93,689 miles. The vehicles may be
inspected by appointment from Feb. 22-26.

Bowling for kids
     Big Brothers and Big Sisters annual "Bowl for Kids' Sake" will be held
Saturday, April 3, at Bowlerama and Price Lanes. To participate, teams
should consist of five or six individuals who are willing to solicit
sponsorship funds on a cents-per-pin basis. Big Brothers and Big Sisters
will bill sponsors after the event, so bowlers need not get involved in
collecting pledge money.
