Report of the Commission on the Status of Women
Awards sponsored by the Office of Women's Affairs
Student and Special Travel Awards
The Student Travel Awards encourage all graduate and undergraduate
students to present scholarly papers and participate in panel discussions
and other activities dealing with women's issues; and support women
students' participation in professional organizations. Departmental
matching funds are required, and the maximum award is $100.
The Special Travel Awards encourage all faculty and professionals to
present scholarly papers and participate in panel discussions and other
activities dealing with women's issues.
These awards are also designed to facilitate the career development of
women faculty and professionals. Departmental matching money is required
and the maximum award is $200.
Copies of the full criteria for both travel awards are available from
the Office of Women's Affairs (831-8063).
The deadline for receipt of application for both travel awards is
April 1.
Trabant Award for Women's Equity
The E. Arthur Trabant Award for Women's Equity is given annually to
any individual, department, administrative unit or committee which has
contributed to equity for women at the University.
"Contributions" include developing exemplary programs or curricula,
implementing innovative policies and procedures related to women's equity
and enhancing existing services to women. Nomination forms are available
from the Office of Women's Affairs at 831-8063. The deadline is March 26.
Research on Women Conference
The Student Research on Women Conference is open to all current
University of Delaware students who have done research on women or gender
issues. Proposal abstracts are due Monday, March 8 at 4:30 p.m. in Women's
Studies Program office, 333 Smith Hall. A President's Award of $150 is
given to the winning paper in both graduate and undergraduate divisions.

Collins Award and Carter Award
The Bessie B. Collins and Mae Carter awards for returning adult women
students are also sponsored by the Office of Women's Affairs and the
Commission on the Status of Women.
The Bessie Collins Award of $200 is given annually to a woman student
who meets the following criteria: 1) over 25 years old; 2) a matriculated
junior; 3) minimum G.P.A. of 3.0; and 4) shows demonstration of future
promise, has contributed to the University and greater communities, and has
overcome special difficulties.
The Mae Carter Award of $250 is given annually to a woman graduate or
undergraduate student who, through her service to women at the University
and her commitment to scholarship carries on the values that Mae Carter,
former assistant provost for women's affairs and executive director of the
Commission on the Status of Women, has represented. Criteria include 1)
graduate or undergraduate returning adult woman student; 2) minimum G.P.A.
of 3.0; 3) service to women on campus; and 4) commitment to scholarship.
The deadline for nominations for both of these awards is March 12.
