Using multimedia in academic settings
Multimedia technology in the academic environment will be featured in
a two-part presentation this month by Douglas Short from the Institute for
Academic Technology in Triangle Park, N.C.
His first talk, "Multimedia and the University Classroom: An
Overview," will be presented from 2-3:15 p.m., Monday, Feb. 8, in Room 207
of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building. This will be a general presentation
of interest to any faculty interested in the use of multimedia in class,
regardless of the discipline area.
The second talk, "How to Design and Implement a Multimedia Lesson,"
will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the same location and will provide specific
steps for creating lessons using ToolBook. Short will use IBM computer and
Pioneer videodisc equipment for both sessions.
Short earned his Ph.D. degree in English from Duke University.
The talks, which are sponsored by the Center for Teaching
Effectiveness and the Department of Music, are free and open to all members
of the University community.
HTAC to perform 'Chocolate Factory'
Harrington Theatre Arts Company (HTAC) will perform Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12, and Thursday through
Saturday, Feb.18-20, in 100 Wolf Hall. In addition, there will be a matinee
at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, followed that evening by a midnight
performance.
The play, which is based on the best-selling fantasy by Roald Dahl,
has been adapted by Richard R. George, and includes all of the characters
from the hit cult movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at the door or in the Perkins
Student Center during the weeks of the performances. Ticket tables in the
Perkins Student Center will be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

'Henry V' scheduled in Hartshorn Gym
The Professional Theatre Training Progarm (PTTP) will perform William
Shakespeare's Henry V at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 5, 6, 12 and 13, in Hartshorn Gym.
Tickets are $4 for students, $10 for faculty and staff and $12 for the
general public.

E-52 theatre to present 'Voices'
E-52 Student Theatre presents its annual Winter Session production,
Voices, by Susan Griffin. Voices is a play about the lives of five women
who do not know one another, nor speak to each other-they are telling their
life stories to the audience. Each of the women is facing some crisis in
life.
Ultimately, these seemingly drastically different women find
themselves exchanging scenes from a common history, and their voices are no
longer isolated, nor are their lives separate.
Voices will be performed at 8:15 p.m., Feb. 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13 in
Bacchus Theatre, located in the Perkins Student Center.

Activists to speak in Smith Hall Feb. 9
Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael) and Vernon Bellecourt (WaBun-Inini)
will speak at the University of Delaware on "Apartheid in America and
Apartheid in Africa" at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9.
Their joint talk will take place in 120 Smith Hall.
Kwame Ture, international representative of the All-African People's
Revolutionary Party (A-APRP) is best known for his contributions during the
Black Power movement of the l960s.
Bellecourt, national representative of the American Indian Movement
(AIM), has received recent publicity for his leadership of demonstrations
against the use of Native Americans as mascots.
Free and open to the public, the program is sponsored by the Black
Student Union, the Campus Coalition for Human Rights, the Student
Environmental Action Coalition and the Office of Housing and Residence Life
at the University.
Flute master class and recital Feb. 11
A flute master class and a lecture/demonstration featuring guest
artist Wendy Rolfe will be presented on Thursday, Feb. 11, in the Loudis
Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.
The master class, focusing on flute styles from different eras, will
be presented at 3 p.m. The lecture/demonstration, entitled "A Journey with
the Flute through Musical History," will be presented at 8 p.m.
Known equally for her performances on modern and period flutes, Wendy
Rolfe won unusual critical acclaim for her New York debut recitals. Founder
and director of the Odyssey Chamber Players, Rolfe is a founding member of
the Palisades Wind Quintet and also has performed with Banchetto Musicale,
the Tanglewood Festival, the Boston Early Music Festival and the Handel and
Haydn Society under Christopher Hogwood.
She has recorded for Newport Classics and Opus One and is associate
professor of flute at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Sponsored by the U.D. Faculty Committee on Cultural Activities and
Public Events, the Visiting Women Scholars Award Program and the Department
of Music, both programs are free and open to the public.

Exhibit to feature international photos
The 60th Wilmington International Exhibition of Photography, an annual
juried competition of prints and slides, will be on display from Feb. 14
through 28 in Clayton Hall.
Sponsored by the Delaware Camera Club and sanctioned by the
Photographic Society of America, the competition attracts submissions from
more than 30 countries. It features approximately 225 award-winning color
and black-and-white prints.
This year, the Delaware Camera Club is celebrating the 60th
anniversary of the exhibition, which is one of the oldest and largest
competitions of its kind in the U.S.
Receptions for the exhibition, featuring multimedia presentations of
award-winning slides, will be held on Sundays, Feb. 14 and 21, from noon to
5 p.m. Color slides will be shown at 1 and 3 p.m., and photojournalism
slides will be shown at 2 and 4 p.m. The receptions also will feature
gallery walks, educational booths and a cash bar.
The exhibition will be on view from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Mondays
through Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Fridays. For more
