Blue Cross extends student coverage

In mid-December, the state of Delaware Health Benefits Committee
extended the dependent age limit to age 24 for many Blue Cross/ Blue Shield
health care plans. To be eligible, a dependent must be a full-time student
and family coverage must be with the following plans: Comprehensive, Total
Health Plus and HMO of Delaware. This change does NOT pertain to students
with Basic or Basic Plus coverage.
The extension is not automatic. To be reinstated, employees must
certify that a dependent is a full-time student by returning the Student
Certification Form sent by Blue Cross/Blue Shield for this purpose. The
form must be returned to Blue Cross by Jan. 31, if you wish reinstatement
retroactive to Jan. 1, 1993.
The certification form may also be used to reinstate dependents whose
coverage ceased if they reached age 21 prior to 1992. To be eligible, a
child must be between the ages of 22 and 24 and a full-time student
dependent upon the employee for support. Student certification forms are
also available from the University Benefits Office, 87 E. Main Street.
Employees may direct questions to Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Delaware
at 428-6080, or to the University Benefits Office at 831-8129.
Note: If a dependent is enrolled in a family plan with Principal
Health Care of Delaware, coverage for full-time student dependents has been
and continues to be up to age 24.
