Golden Key welcomes inductees

     The Golden Key chapter of the National Honor Society at the University
of Delaware inducted outstanding academic juniors and seniors into the
society Dec. 2.
     Greeting new members as they receive their certificates are, from
left, Judith Gibson, assistant vice president of affirmative action and
multi-cultural programs and Golden Key adviser; Gov. Thomas Carper,
selected as an honorary member; Golden Key president Nancy Walsh; and M.
Layne Kalbfleisch, society mid-Atlantic regional director.
     Two scholarships also were awarded to the outstanding junior and
senior initiates. They are, respectively, Robert E. Foglesong, who is
majoring in mechanical engineering and was named as the University of
Delaware Engineering Scholar; and Scott M. LaBarge, who is majoring in
philosophy/classics and is a Eugene Du Pont Memorial Scholar and a Robert
C. Byrd Scholar.
     Founded in 1977, with more than 300,000 members Golden Key is
committed to the recognition, encouragement and promotion of scholastic
excellence. Student-run chapters also are actively involved in service to
the community.
