Grant awarded to ELI
The United States Information Agency (USIA) has awarded a $140,034
grant to the University to teach English to Central American teachers.
Under the grant, the University's English Language Institute will
conduct an intensive training program for English as Foreign Language (EFL)
fellows from Central America.
Twenty-six teachers and teacher trainers from Belize, Costa Rica, El
Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama will participate in the
six-week training program to strengthen their teaching, teacher-training,
supervisory skills and increase their overall knowledge of U.S. culture.
USIA director Henry Catto said, "In keeping with our goal of increased
mutual understanding between nations, we view such grants as important
practical steps in strengthening cultural and academic ties. The Delaware
institute's reputation insures a successful program of instruction."
