Employee Development and Training
New course results from increased staff training

You may recall that last summer several members of the secretarial
staff completed a Train the Trainer program and began instructing the
"Introduction to University Forms and Recordkeeping" class. Their year of
instruction not only polished their facilitation skills, but also made them
acutely aware of the need for training in forms that are not included in
the introductory class. Thus was born the idea for an additional forms
class, simply called Forms and Recordkeeping II.
This summer, Rita Girardi, executive secretary, nursing; Sandy
Jamison, office coordinator, continuing education and Ginny Greene, staff
assistant, Center for Teaching Effectiveness gathered for another intense
"Train the Trainer program." This time, the focus was on the process of
designing instructionally sound training programs. They designed the new
"Forms and Recordkeeping II" class as they learned the principles of
instructional systems design, identifying the levels of learning involved,
the procedure for completing the various steps, how to choose an
appropriate practice/ exercise and how to ensure that the program
objectives are met.
"Forms and Recordkeeping II" piloted Oct. 1. The class includes the
following forms: Supplies and Equipment Expense, Plant Operations Work
Request, Request for Relocation of Equipment, "S" Form, Bi-Weekly Payroll
Time Report Form, Graphic Communications Center: Work Order and Internal
Invoice, and Quick Copy Work Order. As is customary, the class is highly
interactive, with plenty of variety and practice. Participant evaluations
from the pilot were very favorable. The class is scheduled for the spring.
