1991-92 'Review' named 'Pacemaker'
The 16 members of The Review's 1991-92 staff who attended the awards
ceremony in Chicago had something to celebrate afterwards.
The student-run newspaper received the national "Pacemaker" award,
signifying its selection as one of the top five non-daily college
newspapers in the country.
The "Pacemaker" award, which is known as the Pulitzer Prize of college
journalism, is given each year by the Newspaper Association of America and
the Associated College Press.
The 140 competitors in this year's competition were judged on the
quality of various aspects of newspaper production. The Review won "Marks
of Distinction" in the areas of photography, art and graphics, coverage and
content, leadership and writing and editing.
A judge said of the newspaper, "It is an excellent publication. The
paper's coverage of crime, community issues and sports is very strong, and
news and feature reporting is consistently very good. Despite a few
shortcomings, the paper remains very thorough, timely and ambitious."
This year's award ceremonies marks nearly a decade of The Review's
prestigious status as a "Four-Star All-American Newspaper" by the
Associated Collegiate Press.
