Annual library dinner
The University of Delaware Library Associates, a non-profit
organization that supports and maintains the collections of the
University of Delaware Library, will hold its annual dinner on
Tuesday, April 27, in the Buxbaum Room at Arsht Hall on the
University's Wilmington campus. The social hour begins at 6 p.m., and
dinner will be served at 7 p.m..
Guest speaker Clement E. Conger is a former curator of the
Diplomatic Reception Rooms at the United States Department of State.
He will give a one-hour, illustrated slide lecture on "The History and
Formation of the Collection of the Diplomatic Reception Rooms."
This event is open to the general public. For further

Items for sale
The College of Agricultural Sciences Research and Education
Center in Georgetown is offering the following items for sale: MF 300
combine with corn head, 3-row, quick attach and 13' robot bean head;
10' lime drill; 1956 Chrysler V-8 irrigation system (6"x6"); two 1980
Chevrolet 1/2-ton pickups; John Bean hi-pressure sprayer with
500-gallon tank; 5 KW generator; 3 KW generator; 4" x 40' aluminum
pipe; 3" x 20' aluminum pipe; international 510 grain drill (10'
wide); air conditioner/heat pump; incubator and three pressure
washers.
The equipment may be seen from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday,
at the center, located on U.S. Rt. 9 in Georgetown. Sealed bids, made
to the attention of Mark Isaacs, director, will be accepted through
Nov. 30.
Smokeout today
The American Cancer Society will sponsor the 16th annual Great
American Smokeout today. Smokers are encouraged to quit for one day,
and volunteers will have activities planned for smokers at shopping
malls, schools, worksites and hospitals.

Unity Day on Sunday
The newly formed Unity Coalition will hold a Unity Day march and
rally beginning at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, on Main Street in Newark.
The march will be the first of many activities to celebrate religious,
racial and cultural diversity.

Handicraft sale
The University Women's Club will present its annual holiday
handicraft sale from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., today, and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.,
Friday, Nov. 20, in the Gallery of the Perkins Student Center.
There will be Blue Hen items available, along with silk and dried
flower arrangements, holiday ornaments, wreaths and decorations.
Poetry reading
American-Israeli poet Karen Alkalay-Gut will read from her poetry
in a presentation entitled "Love and War," scheduled from 5-6 p.m.,
today, in 110 Memorial Hall.
Alkalay-Gut teaches English at Tel Aviv University and chairs the
Israel Association of Writers in English. Her poetry deals with the
daily realities of Israeli life in all its turbulence and
satisfactions.
She has published six books of poetry, and her work has been
published in numerous journals, including the American Voice, Prairie
Schooner and the Massachusetts Review.
She also is the author of a biography of Adelaide Crapsey and
other critical articles about women and poetry. Alkalay-Gut is
currently in the U.S. reading her poetry.
