Winter garden line
November marks the beginning of the winter schedule for the
"Garden Line" phone service. This public service for home lawn, garden
and pest control questions is staffed by Delaware Cooperative
Extension master gardener volunteers.
Master gardeners may becontacted directly from 9 a.m.-noon,
Wednesdays, through March 10, by calling 831-8862.
Bacchus entertainment
The Perkins Student Center will sponsor Bacchus Lunch at 12:10
p.m., Wednesdays, in the Bacchus Theatre. The D# Sharps, an all women
a capella group, will be featured Nov. 18, and the Black Student
Theatre will appear Nov. 25.
Bring a brown-bag lunch and enjoy these free programs.
Winter graduation
Winter commencement will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 9, in
the Bob Carpenter Center for August and December 1992 graduates.
Degree candidates in the ceremony must wear academic cap and
gown, which must be pre-ordered at the University bookstore.

Girl's Inc. auction
The 12th annual Artists Assembly and Auction will be held at 6
p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Wilmington Country Club. It includes
dinner and silent and live auctions. A portion of the proceeds will be
used to provide artistic and cultural enrichment to children in Girls
Inc.'s after school, evening and summer programs.
Tickets for the event at $65 per person and are available through

Wreath and ivy sale
The University Longwood Graduate Program will sponsor a holiday
wreath and ivy topiary sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4, in the
concourse of the Perkins Student Center. Items may be preordered at
reduced prices until Nov. 23.

E-mail ordering
Departmental supplies may be ordered from Central Stores through
e-mail using the new "electronic supplies" request form. E-Z forms can
be found on the EMC2 bulletin board by accessing the list key "L" in
the category EZ-FORMS.
First-time users should READ -(access) "R" to read the
instructions. When orders are filled, Central Stores will send an
electronic confirmation copy.
Women's club trip
The University Women's Club will sponsor a bus trip to New York
City on Wednesday, Dec. 2. Departure will be at 8:30 a.m. from the
Park-N-Ride lot on Rt. 4. The group will leave New York City at 8:30
p.m.
The cost is $17 for members and $21 for non-members. Checks must
be received by Nov. 22, made payable to UDWC and sent to Vida Klemas,

Handicraft sale
The University Women's Club will present its annual holday
handicraft sale from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19, and from 10
a.m.-4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, in the Gallery of the Perkins Student
Center.
There will be Blue Hen items available, along with silk and dried
flower arrangements, holiday ornaments, wreaths and decorations.
Ag friends breakfast
This month's Friends of Agriculture breakfast will be held at
7:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 20, at the Sheraton Inn in Dover. Kathleen
Curran, a graduate student from Ohio State, will discuss the ecology
and control of the deer tick.
Reservations must be made by Monday, Nov. 16. Cost is $7 per
person, and checks, made payable to Friends of Agriculture, should be
sent to Dave Woodward, Townsend Hall, Newark, DE 19717-1303. For more

Luncheon seminars
Labor Relations will sponsor two lunch seminars this semester.
The first will be from noon-1 p.m., Wenesday, Nov. 18, in the Collins
Room of the Perkins Student Center. There will be a representative
from the American Cancer Society to discuss the dangers of smoking and
how to begin to kick the habit.
The second will be held from noon-1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16, in
the Collins Room of the Perkins Student Center. Charles Beale,
associate director for counseling and student development, will
discuss ways to cope with stress.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend. For more

TGFT in Dewey Beach
The fourth annual fall Thank Goodness for Teachers (TGFT)
celebration will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, at the
Crabber's Cove Restaurant in Dewey Beach.
Frank B. Murray, H. Rodney Sharp Professor of Educational Studies
and Psychology and dean of the College of Education, will serve as
host of the event to pay special tribute to Delaware educators.
Three will be free snacks, beverages, music and door prizes.
Individuals or school groups must reply by Nov. 11 to make
reservations by calling 831-6205 or 735-8202. Space is limited.
The event is sponsored by the University Education Alumni
Association and the College of Education.
Effective teaching
The Center for Teaching Effectiveness (CTE) will sponsor a
colloquium, "Working With First Year Students," from 12-1:30 p.m.,
Monday, Nov. 23, in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center.
