Veterans Day tribute
     Members of the Air Force ROTC detachment at the University are
planning a formal retreat ceremony in honor of Veterans Day at 4 p.m.,
Tuesday, Nov., 10, in front of the Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company
firehouse, located at the intersection of Academy Street and Delaware
Avenue.
     The cadet corps will pay tribute to thousands of veterans who
have fought and died for the United States. The American flag will be
lowered in their honor during the event.
     According to Capt. James Troeschel, assistant professor of Air
Force ROTC, the ceremony is important because "the military has been
instrumental in maintaining peace around the world, and this is a time
when all Americans can honor those who have sacrificed their lives for
their country."
     The public is invited to attend the ceremony.

Nursing research day
     The Department of Advanced Nursing Science will hold a Research
Colloquia Day from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, in 222 McDowell
Hall.
     Candidates for the master of science degree will present their
thesis research and scholarly projects during the one-day event.

Academy meeting
     The Delaware Academy of Science will hold its annual meeting at
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the Rodney Room of the Perkins Student
Center.
     The public is invited to hear the two featured speakers: Jonathan
H. Sharp, professor of marine studies, who will discuss "International
Cooperation on Oceanographic Analysis" and Leo Manzer, of the DuPont
Company, who will present "Protecting the Ozone Layer: The Search for
Alternatives."

TGFT in Dewey Beach
     The fourth annual fall Thank Goodness for Teachers (TGFT)
celebration will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, at the
Crabber's Cove Restaurant in Dewey Beach.
     Frank B. Murray, H. Rodney Sharp Professor of Educational Studies
and Psychology and dean of the College of Education, will serve as
host of the event to pay special tribute to Delaware educators.
     Three will be free snacks, beverages, music and door prizes.
Individuals or school groups must reply by Nov. 11 to make
reservations by calling 831-6205 or 735-8202. Space is limited.
     The event is sponsored by the University Education Alumni
Association and the College of Education.

Book fair today
     The College School and the Education Resource Center will
co-sponsor a book fair this week in 012 Willard Hall Education
Building.
     The hours are 8:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m., today; 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.,
Friday, Nov. 6; and 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7. Thousands of
children's books will be sold at a 5 percent discount.

Marine campus tours
     The College of Marine Studies has opened the doors of its Lewes
campus. Public tours are now being conducted at the facility.
     The tour program was quite successful in the summer and will
continue, with special emphasis for school groups, during the fall and
winter. The program typically includes an introductory slide
presentation and a walking tour of the college's laboratories. These
are conducted by a trained group of volunteers.
     The free tours can be scheduled for groups of five or more,
junior high age or older, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Mondays through
Fridays.
     Requests should be made one week in advance by calling 645-4346,
