Bob Carpenter Center
The skyline around the University of Delaware's Delaware Stadium
is familiar to every Fightin' Blue Hen football fan, but this fall
there was a major change to that profile-and a major change in the
sports and entertainment possibilities-with the completion of the new
$20.5 million Bob Carpenter Center.
Now the construction at the corner of Route 896 and the Christina
Parkway is done, and rave reviews of the new center are starting to
pour in. Big Shout Magazine said, "...the acoustics are fantastic, and
every seat in the house is perfect." Out and About Magazine said,
"Suddenly the University of Delaware is in the entertainment
business-big time." And the News Journal quoted Larry Ahearn of
Electric Factory saying, "This is a fantastic opportunity for
everybody.... You know who the real winners are? The community.
They'll have entertainment and sports available that they didn't have
before." For football, the new facility provides new and expanded
locker rooms; for men's and women's basketball, it provides a new
playing court for the teams and more than 5,000 seats for the fans;
and for all of Delaware, it provides a place to attend sporting
events, concerts, ceremonies, special presentations, exhibitions and
conferences.
As University of Delaware President David P. Roselle has said, it
will quickly become "the most well-attended facility in the state of
Delaware."
In addition to the new season of men's and women's basketball
games, some of the upcoming events scheduled in the Bob Carpenter
Center include Parents Day on Nov. 7; country stars Kathy Mattea and
Hal Ketchum in concert on Nov. 14; folk/rock group 10,000 Maniacs in
concert on Nov. 18; and a performance by the renowned Lippizaner
Stallions on Nov. 24.
