Winter Commencement
Commencement, as everyone knows, is not an ending but a
beginning, and that certainly will be true in January, when Winter
Commencement marks the first academic ceremony to be held in the Bob
Carpenter Center.
Scheduled at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 9, the ceremony is for those
students who complete their degree requirements in August and
December.
Featured speaker at the ceremony will be alumnus Andrew M. Stern,
now CEO of Sunwest Communications Inc., a full-service public
relations firm in Dallas. At the University, Stern was active in
student government and served as editor-in-chief of The Review in
1970. In recent years, Winter Commencement has been held in the
Delaware Field House. This year, each graduate will be entitled to a
maximum of eight guest tickets. Tickets must be picked up at the
Student Services Building from Dec. 14-18.
Students planning to participate in Winter Commencement must wear
academic cap and gown, which are available through the University
Bookstore. Orders must be placed on special forms available at the
bookstore. Academic regalia will be ready for distribution on or about
Dec. 14. Costs are $22.50 for baccalaureate and associate candidates;
$23.50 for cap, gown and tassel and $15.50 for hood for master's
candidates; and $29 for cap, gown and tassel and $20.50 for hood for
doctoral candidates.
