Arena floor has winning history

The 60-foot-by-112-foot northern hard maple strip floor in the
arena of the Bob Carpenter Center is the floor used in April 1992 for
the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament semifinal and final
games with Duke, Indiana, Michigan and Cincinnati at the Hubert H.
Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis.
The 203-panel portable floor was dismantled after the three games
were played on it and shipped back to its maker, Horner Flooring Co.
of Dollar Bay, Mich., where it was refinished with University of
Delaware, Bob Carpenter Center and Acierno Arena markings.
"We're delighted to have the opportunity to be able to obtain
such an exceptional playing surface" for the center, Delaware Athletic
Director Edgar N. Johnson said.
"The Pro King floor is the best made, and the added fact of its
historical significance as a floor built for the NCAA championship, I
think adds a little something special to the new facility," he said.
