Employee development
The Office of Employee Relations announced the fall Employee
Development programs in an insert in the Aug. 8 issue of UpDate.
Those employees who have not received a copy or who need
additional copies, should call 451-8725 or Edwina Haring at 451-

Listed below are the employee development classes for November
and December. Look for this column every week for current class
announcements.
Schedule of Courses
Communicating Standards and Objectives
This companion program to Setting Standards and Objectives
addresses the discussion between the supervisor and the employee.
The training program provides practice opportunities for
supervisors to ensure their employee understands and/or agrees with
the performance criteria that will be used to evaluate her or him.
Participants will need to bring the worksheets developed in Setting
Standards and Objectives to this class. Prerequisite: Setting
Standards and Objectives.

Introduction to University Forms and Recordkeeping
This training program is designed for salaried staff who work
with common University forms. Through in-class exercises,
participants will create a reference manual for their professional
use. Competency in administrating University forms is listed as a
job responsibility in the salaried staff career matrix.

The Organization of the University
Understand the U.D. organization through an explanation of the
University's organization chart and individual and departmental
functions. The relationships among units are explored in depth.

Understanding and Utilizing Monthly Account Statements
An introduction to the University accounting system, this
session is designed to benefit employees responsible for monitoring
monthly account statements, those in administrative/support
positions desiring greater knowledge of monthly account statement
and new principal investigators unfamiliar with the University's
internal accounting statements. Topics covered include object and
transaction codes and recent accounting system changes.

Mastering Correct English
A four-session workshop to improve basic knowledge of grammar,
punctuation, sentence structure and English usage.
