Nutrition Clinic services available to University community
The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Clinic,
located in 121 Alison Hall, is staffed by a registered dietitian.
Following is a list of services available to the University
community.
Individual counseling
An appointment can be made with a registered dietitian to
discuss nutritional concerns. A physician's referral is required
for those needing specific modified diet instruction. Appointments
are available Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Call 451-1109.
The fees are $30 for an initial 45-minute visit and $20 for a
30-minute follow-up visit. There is no charge for students referred
by Student Health Services.
Noontime nutrition
Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch. Beverages will
be provided. Sessions are held in 236 Alison Hall from noon - 1
p.m. The instructor is Marianne Carter, r.d.
Two sessions are currently scheduled
* Nov. 12, "Life in the Fast Lane," discusses how to eat
sensibly while eating on the run.
* Dec. 3, "Holiday Survival," offers tips on how to prevent
weight gain during the holidays. Recipes will be distributed.
Supermarket tours
Small groups will be led through a local grocery,
aisle-by-aisle by a registered dietitian. Participants will learn
how to shop wisely and read food labels. Tours will be scheduled
based upon requests.
Cost is $15. Transportation is not provided.
Body fat analysis
Participants can have a body-fat percentage determined via
FUTREX-5000, a non-invasive procedure which takes about 15 minutes
to perform.
Cost is $5 and the service is offered from 2:30-3:30 p.m.,
Mondays, and noon-1 p.m., Tuesdays, through Nov. 25, in the Alison
Hall Nutrition Clinic.
Nutrient analysis
A computerized diet analysis is performed. Participants complete a
food frequency form and, after analysis, the results will be
forwarded.
Cost is $5. The service is available from 2:30-3:30 p.m.,
Mondays, through Nov. 25.
Recipe analysis
For those interested in the calorie and nutrient content of
home recipes, a computerized analysis determines nutrient content
per serving.
Cost is $5. Participants should bring a recipe to the
Nutrition Clinic from 2:30-3:30 p.m., Mondays, or noon-1 p.m.,
Tuesdays, through Nov. 25. Results will be forwarded.
Dial-A-Dietitian
This free service is available for anyone with questions
regarding nutrition or diet. Students in dietetics, supervised by
the registered dietitian, will make responses. This service is
available through Nov. 25.
