Conference facilities expand

With the opening of Arsht Hall on the Wilmington campus, the
University of Delaware added 17,000 square feet of meeting space to
its conference center capabilities.
Arsht Hall, the first new building erected by the University
in Wilmington, has been designed especially for adult learning.
From the spacious lobby to the selection of furnishings and colors,
the building's learning environment is ideal for conferences,
meetings and seminars. Complete food and beverage service is
available using on-site kitchens and a resident chef provided by
University Dining Services. With 17 meeting rooms, a ballroom,
lobby and reading room, Arsht Hall can serve events for from three
to 300.
The University of Delaware is unusual in the United States,
and perhaps the world, since it operates six facilities designed as
conference centers. On the Wilmington campus, there are the
Goodstay and Wilcastle conference centers and Arsht Hall. In
Newark, Clayton Hall is the focus of activity, although conferences
also are held in other University buildings. The Bob Carpenter
Sports/Convocation Center, under construction, will provide
additional space for large events and trade shows. In Southern
Delaware, there is a small conference center in Milford, and the
residential Virden Retreat Center on the Lewes campus.
Over 160,000 persons a year attend conference activities at
the University. Conference planning and coordination help is
available to academic departments at no cost through the Division
of Continuing Education. For more information, contact Gregory
Johnson, associate director, telephone 451-2886.
