Art gallery trip
The Columbus 500 Sail On Committee of Delaware is sponsoring
a trip to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., to see
the exhibition "Circa 1492 Art in the Age of Exploration."
The bus will depart at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, from the
Ames parking lot on Miller Road in Wilmington.
Cost of $59 includes bus transportation, refreshments on the
bus, entrance to the exhibit and dinner.

Tuition exchange
The Tuition Exchange Program will be available again for
children of full-time professional, salaried staff and hourly
employees.
Ten slots will be available by lottery for the 1992-93
academic year.

Oct. 25.

Main Street Halloween
"Trick or Treat Main Street" will be held from 5:30 p.m.-7:30
p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Children in the sixth grade or below, accompanied by a parent,
are invited to trick or treat in stores in the Newark Shopping
Center and along Main Street.
The event is sponsored by the Newark Business Association,
with the help of National 5 & 10 and Mellon Bank.

Diversity award
The President's Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural
Diversity is accepting nominations for the 1991 University Racial
and Cultural Diversity Recognition Award.
All full- and part-time University faculty, staff and students
are eligible for the award.
Nomination forms can be obtained in 124 Hullihen Hall. The
deadline for submitting a nomination is Oct. 22.

Manila the standard
Employees are reminded that standard brown manila envelopes,
or Quick Copy gray envelopes, are the only colors to be used in
intramural campus mail. Jim Crowe, supervisor of the Campus
Delivery Service, redistributes used brown envelopes for free when
he has them. He can be contacted at 451-2157.
Hebrew activities
A number of activities are being sponsored by Hebrew Bayit.
Lessons in beginning Hebrew are being offered at 8:30 p.m.,
Oct. 16 and Nov. 6 and 18. Showings of Sesame Street in Hebrew will
be held at 9 p.m., Oct. 14 and Nov. 11 and 25. Israeli dance
lessons are scheduled at 8:30 p.m., Nov. 13.
All events will occur in the second floor lounge of Ray Street
Residence Hall C.

International hosts
The International Group for Women will meet at St. Thomas
Episcopal Church from 10 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Oct. 24. The program
will be "We Discuss Halloween." Free babysitting, sponsored by the
University of Delaware Women's Club, is available.

Auto insurance
The University's automobile insurance through Nationwide
Insurance Co. has been extended to provide physical damage coverage
for short-term automobile rentals if the vehicle is being operated
by an employee conducting official University business.
There is a $500 deductible which, in the event of an accident,
will be the responsibility of the department renting the vehicle.
If the rental agreement is for less than 30 days, the coverage
is automatic and need not be reported. Longer rental agreements
must be reported to the Insurance Office and the vehicle added to
the policy. The department renting the vehicle will be charged the
pro-rata premium.

Self-paced learning
CNS User Services' Training Center, located in Room 116 Newark
Hall, has added a number of Macintosh videotapes to its self-paced
learning collection of audio and videotapes.
"Microsoft Excel 3.0" (four tapes), is a spreadsheet
application that begins with installing Excel, progresses to
formulas and creating charts and ends with creating macros;
"FileMaker Pro" (three tapes) is a data base application that
includes topics on defining fields, performing calculations and
formatting summaries;
"MacWrite II" (two tapes) focuses on setting tabs, page
numbering, using the spell checker and thesaurus and graphics;
"Microsoft Work 4.0" (two tapes) lets you move copy, set
margins, create tabs and table, create a mail merge and style
sheets; and
"WordPerfect 2.0" (two tapes) includes entering text,
formatting documents, creating columns and using macros.
These tapes are available for use in the Training Center AV
room or they may be checked out.

Got your shots?
All new and returning students are reminded to be sure their
immunizations are current. Particular attention should be given to
measles, mumps and rubella.
Students with incomplete immunization will not be able to
register for the spring semester. Records must be checked at the
Student Health Service.

Student self-defense
A series of self-defense workshops are being offered to
full-time students. Each session will teach basic skills for
self-protection in case of assault.
Techniques will include pressure points, blocking, kicking and
hitting. Participants should wear non-restrictive clothing and
sneakers since practice is the main emphasis of the workshop.
Six sessions are scheduled from 7 - 9:30 p.m. These are
scheduled Oct. 9 in Harrington B lounge; Oct. 16 in Smyth Hall
lounge; Oct. 30 in Christiana West; Nov. 6 in Russell A/B lounge;
Nov. 20 in Gilbert D/E lounge; and Dec. 3 in Dickinson E/F lounge.
On Oct. 23, a class will take place in Rodney E/F lounge from
7:30 - 9 p.m. and, on Nov. 11, a class will be held in Kent Hall
lounge from 7:30 - 10 p.m.
