Newark campus readies for phone changeover
The Newark campus will have new telephone exchanges in 1992,
the result of a changeover by Diamond State Telephone Co. from its
current analog switch that is nearing obsolescence to a
sophisticated digital switch.
After the changeover, which currently is scheduled for the
weekend of Jan. 18, faculty and administrative (non-student) phones
will have an exchange of 831, instead of the current 451, 453 and
292 exchanges, and student phones will have an exchange of 837,
replacing the current 731 and 738 exchanges.
The two, new exchanges will be dedicated to the University's
use. Telephone extensions (the last four numbers) will not be
altered, and current telephone equipment will still be able to be
used.
Do you have a question or concern about the telephone
changeover? A Centrex Transition Team, chaired by Wilson Dillaway,
Network and Systems Services, has been appointed to assist with the
changeover. Your thoughts, questions and suggestions are important
to the process. Please share them with Dillaway (Wilson.Dillaway
@MVS); with Donna Borden, Telephone Services (Donna.Borden @MVS),
either through Campus Mail or e-mail; or contact any committee
member.
