Multimedia facility grand opening
Faculty and staff are invited to attend the grand opening of
a new Instructional Technology Center (ITC) multimedia laboratory
in 309 Willard Hall Education Building from 2:30-3:30 p.m.,
Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Fred T. Hofstetter, associate provost and director of the ITC,
will introduce new multimedia training, development and
presentation services. The opening serves as the kickoff event for
a series of ITC seminars on multimedia computing.
The multimedia laboratory, funded by grants from the Unidel
Foundation and IBM, will house eight IBM PS/2-based student systems
and one IBM PS/2 instructor/creation system that will have the
capability to digitize images and audio from a variety of sources
including tape recorders, microphones and CD players. Each system
will be able to show full-motion and still video and to play
digitized audio. A variety of software will allow users to control
video inputs, pictures, color, contrast, fading, hue, volume, tone
and balance to create their own multimedia presentations.
The Instructional Technology Center staff will use the lab to
teach seminars to University faculty on the applications of
multimedia in classroom teaching and presentations and to assist
faculty in creating multimedia presentations. The lab will also be
used to train off-campus clients under the recently announced
University of Delaware/IBM Multimedia Partnership.
For further information on the multimedia laboratory, call the
Instructional Technology Center at 451-8162. Details on the
multimedia seminar series, entitled "Getting Started with
Multimedia," will be announced in the Oct. 24 issue of UpDate.
