Book plate marks fund gifts
This book plate was designed for the Asklepios Book Fund,
named after the Greek god of healing, shown above with a Greek
architectural motif and a plant motif, a source of medicine in the
ancient world.
Established in 1988 by Marvin B. Sussman, Unidel Professor
Emeritus of Human Behavior, the fund was created to obtain books
for the University Library that "try to link the social, behavioral
and humanity sciences with the natural and physical sciences,"
using a holistic approach to knowledge.
The fund received added impetus from a symposium on "Family
Supportive Networks and the Lifespan" held in Sussman's honor in
1988.
At the symposium, Sussman was presented with a book of
contributions from his colleagues and students, entitled Family and
Support Systems, edited by Suzanne Steinmetz, a former student and
faculty member.
The royalties from the book have been donated to the Asklepios
Fund.
