United Way; Campaign to begin Oct. 14
The 1991 University of Delaware United Way Campaign will be
conducted from Oct. 14 through Oct. 25. This year, the University's
goal is $132,500; the overall campaign goal for United Way of
Delaware is $18.4 million.
The campaign will have its official kickoff Oct. 14 at a
training session and reception for solicitors in Clayton Hall.
Results of an administrative pacesetters campaign will be announced
and solicitors will have the opportunity to see the premier showing
of the University of Delaware campaign video.
Following the kickoff, each employee will be contacted by a
co-worker to contribute to the United Way. Your pledge, in the form
of a payroll deduction, will help provide needed community services
year round. By using the United Way's designation option, you can
direct your gift to community care, targeted care, specific care
and neighboring United Ways.
As in past years, we will have raffle incentives to encourage
employees to increase their United Way contributions. These
include:
Freeport Fling
Roberta Campbell, University alumna and president of Campbell
Travel Center, has donated a four-day trip for two to the Bahamas.
This includes round-trip airfare, deluxe accommodations and
transfers to and from the hotel. If the winner desires, Campbell
travel will substitute an $800 credit toward any other
travel/vacation arrangements made through them. Travel arrangements
must be scheduled within six months of the raffle drawing. There is
no cash equivalent for any unused features.
University of Delaware trips
Continuing Education has donated a choice of two trips for two
to attend an opera or a musical. Conferences and Centers has
donated weekend accommodations for two at the Virden Center in
Lewes.
Bag & Baggage has donated three pieces of luggage.
Other University of Delaware incentives
Dining Services has donated two one-year memberships to the
Blue and Gold Club, $25 in dining points and a dinner for two at
the Blue and Gold Club. U-Del Credit Union has donated a "Taste of
Brandywine" membership. Recreation and Intramurals has donated two
free locker services at Carpenter Sports Building, one individual
or family membership to the outdoor pool and two free skating
passes at the Ice Arena. The University Bookstore has donated a $50
gift certificate. The Theatre Department has donated tickets for
two to each of two current season performances. A member of the
University community has donated an original oil painting.
To be eligible for raffle incentives, you must donate or
pledge:
- $5 per pay ($120 total) for the Freeport Fling
- $3 per pay ($72 total) for the University of Delaware
trips
- $1 per pay ($24 total) for the other University of
Delaware incentives
Raffle drawings will be held Nov. 26 at the United Way Thank
You Reception at the President's home, 47 Kent Way. You need not be
present to win. To participate in the raffle, your contribution
must be given to your solicitor and received by the Cashier's
Office by the close of business on Oct. 25.
Please note that the IRS now requires that if you wish to
deduct your full United Way contribution on your itemized tax
return, you must decline to participate in the raffle incentives in
writing when you turn in your pledge card or donation. If you take
part in the raffle and itemize your tax deductions, the specific
dollar amounts you contribute to become eligible for the raffle
cannot be deducted on your tax return. Raffle contributors who do
not itemize their tax deductions are not affected by this IRS
ruling.
For more information about the campaign or the incentives,
contact the United Way solicitor in your unit. Most important,
please give generously to the United Way, and help the University
exceed its 1991 goal. You will be continuing the tradition of
people helping people and enhancing the quality of life in our
community.
Thank you.
