Blue Hens play Wildcats Saturday
A capacity crowd is expected to attend the University's
Homecoming football game Saturday, in Delaware Stadium. The game,
which begins at 1 p.m., will pit the Fightin' Blue Hens (4-0, 2-0
in Yankee Conference) against the Wildcats of New Hampshire (3-1,
2-0 in Yankee Conference).
Despite a rare day off last Saturday, the Blue Hens climbed a
notch in the weekly NCAA Division 1-AA poll, moving to fifth place.
The Wildcats are ranked 20th in the same poll.
In their last game, on Saturday, New Hampshire (7-3-1 last
season, 5-3 in Yankee Conference play) scored four touchdowns in
the fourth quarter to overcome the University of Maine 38-20. The
Hens, however, own an all-time record of 27-9 on Homecoming,
including a perfect 17-0 record against Yankee Conference
opponents.
Last year, the Wildcats defeated the Blue Hens 34-7 in Durham,
N.H. The teams first met in 1953, when Delaware defeated New
Hampshire 48-0. Saturday's contest in Delaware Stadium is the 18th
in the teams' series, which the Blue Hens lead 12-5.
The game will be broadcast live on WDEL-am (1150), starting
with a pre-game show at 12:30 p.m. Highlights of the contest will
be shown at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, on
WNS-TV (Heritage Cablevision, Channel 2).
