Ukrainian ambassador greets Kiev MBA students in Newark
When 25 MBA candidates from the International Management
Institute in Kiev (IMI-Kiev), accompanied by deputy director Alexander
Makarenko, came to the University on July 7 to begin a six-week
session at the Summer International Business Institute (SIBI), they
were greeted by someone from home, the ambassador from the Ukraine,
Oleg Bilorus, formerly the director of the institute.
The ambassador was in Newark July 8 for a welcoming reception for
the SIBI students at the Blue and Gold Club. Earlier in the day,
President and Mrs. David P. Roselle entertained the ambassador at
lunch.
SIBI and IMI-Kiev have joined together in a partnership to
provide MBA candidates from Kiev with courses in business and
economics, English training and opportunities to visit American
business firms and to experience American culture.
This summer's session, entitled "Preparing the Eastern
Entrepreneur for the Western Market," includes a two-week internship
with area corporations and a home stay component.
A joint program of the College of Business and Economics and the
Office of International Programs and Special Sessions, in conjunction
with the English Language Institute, SIBI receives support from the
United States Information Agency and local support from People to
People Delaware, the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Philadelphia and
other civic groups, according to June Quigley, SIBI coordinator.
Over the past two years, more than 40 IMI-Kiev MBA candidates
have been trained at SIBI. In addition, SIBI has provided on-site
business seminars and English training for IMI-Kiev instructors.
Another four-week SIBI session will be held July 27-Aug. 22 for
international business professionals from other countries, including
Czechoslovakia, Japan, Korea and Brazil. The Czechoslovakians,
sponsored by People to People International, will stay an additional
week for corporate visitation and home stay, Quigley said.
